This one-story frame building served as the office and surgery for Dr.
James M. Jackson, the leader of Miami's early medical community. Jackson,
who moved to Miami in 1896, served for many years as City Physician. Upon
his death in 1924, the Miami City Hospital was renamed in his honor. This
building's wide porches, supported by Doric columns, exemplify the adaptation
of the Neo-Classical style to Miami's climate. Jackson's office is currently
the headquarters of the Dade Heritage Trust, Inc. The Dr. James M. Jackson
Office was listed in the National Register of Historic Places
in 1975.
