::  Villa Paula
5811-5837 N Miami Avenue
Year Built: 1926
Architect: C. Freira
Dates Designated: 1983, 1987

a. Built in the 1920s to house the Cuban consulate, Villa Paula is, in effect, a small Cuban government building transplanted to American soil. The building was designed by a Havana architect in the Neo-Classical style popular in Cuba at the time, and all of the construction materials were imported from Cuba. Villa Paula is named for the wife of Domingo Milord, the Cuban consul to Miami when the building was constructed.
