::  Security Building
117 NE 1st Avenue
Year Built: 1926
Architect: Robert Greenfield
Date Designated: 2003

a. This distinctive skyscraper is an impressive example of a commercial building designed to fit the confines of a narrow lot. At the time of its construction, the 16-story building was a soaring, artfully designed building that featured a wealth of detail and expensive cladding materials. The Security Building's signature copper-faced mansard roof is pierced by porthole windows and terminates with a domed, octagonal cupola. The building was the headquarters of the Dade County Security Company, one of Florida's most important financial institutions during the Land Boom era. The Security Building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

b. Historic photograph of the Security Building, circa 1928.
